Tourist spot in Goa


Goa is one of the most beautiful spot in India known as "Pearl of India ".The coastline with it whitish sand, palm fringes and different temples and churches is a scenic attraction to the tourist of foreign as well as domestic to Goa. The tour of Goa is covered into two parts North and South Goa.

Beaches of north Goa:
Vagator beach: Vagator is 22kms from Panjim It is popular beach Dominated by Chapora Fort to the north, on its imposing head land. To the south of Vagator is Calangute beach.

Anjuna beach: Anjuna beach is 18kms from panjim. In Anjuna beach there is Magnificent Albuquerque mansion built in 1920, Flanked by Octagonal towers and attractive Mangalore tiled roof.

Calangute beach: It is 16kms from panjim .is most popular holiday resort in Goa. Excellent accommodation facilities are available, particularly at tourist spots and cottages.
Arambol beach: It is 50 kms from Panjim. A unique beach in the north goa is both rocky and sandy beach. It has sweet water pond right on the shore.

Temples in north Goa:
Shri Saptakoteshwar temple: It is 37kms from Panjim at Narve-Bicholim, was favoured deity of Kadamba kings. Its original temple was situated in island of Diwar. It was destroyed by the Portuguese and its Idol was shifted at Narve. In 1668 AD it was renovated by Chhatrapati Shivaji and it was worshipped and known as 'Dharalinga'
Shri Pandurang temple: It is at Sanquelim 40 kms from Margao. The century old temple of Trimurthy has a back drop of a beautiful hillock covered groves of palm. The most important festival which attended devotes all over goa are in December.
Sapteshwar-Bhagvati temple: It is at mandrem 17kms from Mapusa in Pernem talukas, the complex of five temples, the main temple being of Shri SapteshwarAnd Bhagvati .Other temples are Narayan, Ravalnath and Satpurush. Dassehra, Zatra , Bhajani saptah are the main festivals.
Shri Santadurga : 14 kms from Mapusa at Dargal, Pernem. When all the temples in bardez were destroyed by the Portuguese this goddess was removed at Sanquelim. It was the time of the notorious Portuguese inquisition in Goa. Therefore in 1550 A.D. this Goddess was taken to Dhargal in Pernem Taluka which also formed pert of Sawantwadi .The Zatra of this Goddess is held in month of December .The temple is beautiful and naturally surrounded.
Other Interesting Spots in North Goa:
Aguada Fort: It is 18 kms from Panjim Built by the Portuguese in 1609-1612, to command the entry into the river Mandovi, in order to protect old goa from Potential energy attacks. A spring within the Fort provides water supply to the ships that called there. The fort house presents the central Jail. A lighthouse is situated nearby
Mayem Lake: It is 35 kms from Panjim city. It is surrounded by
Green Hills and is an ideal Picnic spot. Good accommodation facilities are available in cottages. Boating is available in the lake.
Mapusa town: It is 13 kms from Panjim. It is the capital of Bardez taluka, Weekly Friday is held at Modern streamlined market, Attended by large crowds.

Beaches south of Goa:
Dona Paula Bay: 7 kms from Panjim. An idyllic picturesque spot. Command a fine of the Zuari and Marmugao Harbour. Water scootering facilities are available here.

Miramar: 3 kms from Panjim. A lovely Golden beach of soft sand girdled with palm trees facing the blue Arabian sea, is the nearest to Panjim.
Colva beach: About 6 kms from Margao. Colva beach is the pride of salcete and the only rival to Calangute by its scenic splendors. Here the sea, sand and sky blend in enchanting natural harmony unspoilt by men. Have good accommodation facilities and good cottages.
Palolem: About 37 kms from Margao. Just west of chaudi one of the most enchanting beaches in Goa relatively deserted, with blackdrop of western ghat situated in southern talukas of canacona.

Churches in south Goa.
Old Goa: It is 10 kms form Panjim lies the site of city of Old Goa, Founded by Adil shah in the first decade of 16th century. It was developed by them with a view to shift their capital from Bijapur. However, Afonso de Albuquerque made a short work of it when he stormed and took it over to house the center of power of the Portuguese colonies.
Basilica of Bom Jesus: Built in 16th century is the most popular and famous of all churches in Goa. The Mortal remains of St Francis Xavier, Kept in a silver casket, are enshrined here. This church dedicated to infant Jesus is now a World Heritage Monument. Timings : Sunday: 10:00 to 18.30 hrs Weekdays 9:00 to 18:30hrs Masses: Sunday 8:00 & 9.15hrs and weekdays: 07.00 & 08.00hrs.

Temples in south Goa:
Shri Manguesh: It is 22 kms from Panjim and 26 kms from Margao at Priol-Ponda Taluka. It is located on hillock surrounded by lush green hills. Though small it has an air of distinctive elegance. Its lofty white tower at the entrance is a landmark of the country-side. This is temple dedicated to lord Shiva.
Shri Shantadurga: It is 33 kms from Panjim is dedicated to Shantadurga the goddess who meditates between Vishnu and Shiva. Has a rich beautiful Garbhakuda or the holy of holies where the deity is kept

Other Interesting Spots in South Goa:
Dudhsagar Waterfall: 60 kms from Panjim. It is accessible by train only. Water plummets hundreds of feet's in large volume. In cascades forming one of the most spectacular of all natural phenomena in Goa. Hikes and trekker are carried in Goa.

Kesarval spring: 22 kms from Panjim .The spring emerges from hard and compact rocks and people bathe in its water with strong belief that it has medicinal properties.
Vasco-da-Gama: 30 kms from panjim. A well laid out city close to Marmugao Harbour has beautiful and extensive avenues. The air terminus of Goa at Dabolim lies in the city. It serves as the south central railway.
Mormugao Harbour: 34 kms from panjim and 4 kms from Vasco is one of the finest natural harbour on west coast of Indian.
Pilar: 11kms from Panjim Important religious and educational center of Christian mission Aries. The church, seminary and school atop hillock command a magnificent panorama of the side around and a fine view of Mormugao harbour & Zuari River.

How to reach Goa?
Important railheads are at Tivim, Modgaon, Karmali and Vasco. Madgaon is connected by Konkan Railway with Mumbai. Dabolim Airport is 29 kms from Panjim.
